What is the Leibniz AI Academy?
The Leibniz AI Academy is an interdisciplinary project at Leibniz University Hannover that offers cross-faculty programmes designed to develop competencies in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Academy combines state-of-the-art industrial insights with leading academic research and is aimed at both students from a wide range of disciplines and professionals from industry.
The goal of the Academy is to provide all participants, from first-year students to experienced AI specialists, with the opportunity to expand their knowledge of AI and to develop practical skills that enable them to take an active role in shaping the future. Particular emphasis is placed on a flexible educational concept that blends online and in-person formats and creates interactive, practice-oriented learning environments.
Close collaboration between different faculties fosters an interdisciplinary approach that promotes AI competencies not only in computer science but also in areas such as mechanical engineering, geosciences, and personalised medicine. The programmes are offered as Micro Degrees, allowing participants to acquire internationally recognised skills. This underlines the Academy’s role as a forward-looking platform for learning, research, and innovation.
The Leibniz AI Academy sees itself as a gateway to shaping the future. It enables students to purposefully broaden their academic paths and offers professionals new opportunities for development in the spirit of lifelong learning.
Micro Credentials, as defined in the Recommendation on a European approach to micro-credentials for lifelong learning and employability, are certifications of short, self-contained learning units offered in highly flexible, portable, and stackable formats. This means that they can be completed individually and later combined to form, for example, a Micro Degree.
A Micro Degree provides an alternative learning pathway to traditional educational formats. Unlike conventional degrees, which cover broad fields of knowledge, a Micro Degree focuses on a specialised area or specific skill and requires significantly less time to complete.
